Flowers in the Fall

It's Fall. It's that time of year when the bright pastels disappear into hiding, when the leaves turn gorgeous reds and oranges as the whistling of the wind rustles the few remaining ones upon the ground. It's the time when the flowers go away. Well, sort of. My flower buttons aren't going anywhere. They are here and they are ready to show off their petal power!

A vintage brown octagon button in the middle, followed by a pretty green floral shaped button on top complete this piece. Simply gorgeous! Ring measures 1 1/4" in diameter.

Ok, so we all know how much I love buttons. I mean, I really Love them with a capital L. If I had the time, I would tuck each one in bed at night. I would name each one and give them their own social security number. I would take them with me everywhere I go. I would talk to them. Actually, I already do that. Well, you get my point. I love me some buttons; round, square, textured, fabric, metal, old, new, colorful, boring, funny, rude, quiet, loud... oh, I think I've blurred the line between people and buttons, sorry.

I Admit... I'm a Metal Head

Vintage Two-Tone Flower Ring

If you look back at all my stacked button rings over the past couple of years, you will find one recurring theme throughout my collection... Metal! I'm fascinated by its cool steel appearance, but it gives such a unique look when paired with the vintage and modern buttons. My favorite type of metal is brass with its rich distressed hues.

I've scoured high and low to find the unique metal buttons that are in my collection. Sometimes antique stores, sometimes online shops, sometimes off the clothing I buy at department stores! (I've also been known to steal a button or 2 from my teenage son's shirts). Despite the weird looks I get from him, I see a twinkle in his eye when I show him the finished ring. Lately he has been asking me to make some button rings for his female friends at school. I certainly hope my craft isn't being used for purposes of him trying to get a date, ha!
